Star Wars Day

May the 4th be with you! Playing on the phrase may the Force be with you from iconic movie Star Wars, May 4th means something a little different for fans of George Lucas’ creation.  It is a reminder to ponder what “force” is at play in our lives as spiritual beings.

I’m a long time scifi fan and while Star Trek and all its incarnations resonate most with me, I consider myself a first generation Star Wars fan.  It’s fun and entertaining and hits all the marks for hero story telling.  It can call us to a deeper awareness of that energy which gives us life.  It calls us to ponder how we are all connected to one another and to creation.

The Force is that which binds us together, ties the universe together and makes us one.  Many religious traditions speak of the energy which connects us all – the Spirit of God, the Tao, qi, prana, and so on.   When Star Wars entered contemporary culture in the 70’s, many young Catholics’ response to “may the Force be with you” was “and also with you”.  (That response has since been changed to “and with your spirit”.)

What is the Force for you? How do you know it is present? What gives you life, moves you to evolve, to be better than you are right now?

May the Force be with you today and always.  May you find the droids you are looking for!
