Reiki Principles

Just for today, I will not anger.

Just for today, I will not worry.

Just for today, I will be grateful for all my blessings.

Just for today, I will work with honesty and integrity.

Reiki can complement your spiritual practices by helping you relax and increase the flow of Universal Life Energy/Chi/Spirit.  I provide Reiki as a complement to spiritual direction.

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced as ‘raykey’) is a spiritual healing art which involves sharing energy by touch through hands to facilitate the natural healing of body and emotional wellness.

History of Reiki

It is believed Reiki originated in Tibet thousands of years ago, and current Reiki practice can be traced to the spiritual teachings of Mikao Usui in Japan in the 1920’s.

Reiki is a subtle and effective form of energy healing which some believe brings about healing on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.

Reiki is based on the belief there is a universal energy that supports the body’s inherent self-healing abilities.  Reiki practitioners seek to access this energy, allowing it to flow to the body and facilitate the healing process. Through resting hands on a person and holding space together this universal energy is shared. Throughout history there are stories of holy men and women, shamans and healers who lay on hands providing comfort, healing and well-being.

What to expect in a typical treatment?

During a Reiki session, a person remains fully clothed (loose, comfortable clothing is suggested) while comfortably reclining on a massage table or seated in a chair.

The Reiki practitioner places their hands on the recipient in various positions. Some practitioners use a non-touching technique, where hands are held a few inches away from the recipient’s body.

The hands are usually kept still for 3 to 5 minutes before moving to the next position. The hand positions usually give a general coverage of the head, the front and back of the torso, knees and feet. A treatment can last from 30 to 45 minutes. The recipient often feels warmth or tingling in the area being treated, even when using a non-touching approach. A state of deep relaxation, combined with a general feeling of well-being is usually the most noticeable effect of the treatment.

Providing Reiki at a distance is also available.
