SoulCollage®

What is SoulCollage®? Ask several different facilitators and participants and you’ll have several different answers. For me, it is a creative, fun way to describe the indescribable stirrings of the soul. I am able to express and explore my heart and soul in an artful and creative way. Seena B. Frost, M.A., M.Div. (1932-2016) developed this process through her psychotherapy practice in the late 1980s. SoulCollage® Evolving (2010), a revised, expanded edition of Seena’s first book, was published and SoulCollage® Facilitator Training programs were held. The community took root and blossomed.

By using images from magazines, calendars, note cards, or even your own photographs, and taking a bit of intuition and imagination and mix it with a bit of glue and some mat board, you create your own “deck” of collaged cards where each card reflects some part of who you are, your life journey, your community, and who and what has supported and guided you along the way.

Below is one of my cards I put together using photographs I have captured with my camera to illustrate what a card might look like.

Brother Sun, Sister Moon

Some people who use SoulCollage® say it’s fun and provides artistic expression. Others like moving images around and seeing what evolves. For others, images “call” to them and say ‘choose me’, and they answer that call by cutting them out and making a card with the image to add to their deck. For some people, making SoulCollage® cards provides a feeling of satisfaction in creating something. For others, it is a quiet and contemplative process where the cards made are used to delve into the depths of one’s soul and consciousness and encounter the inner self and move toward healing, personal growth, self acceptance and spiritual wisdom. After completing a card, people engage in a process of completing the statement “I am one who” as if the image on the card is speaking and revealing aspects of an individual’s soul.

Anyone can do SoulCollage®, even people who believe they have no artistic ability. You will be surprised and have fun doing it! Your cards are unique to you and are for your personal use to discover the depth of each card. Through journaling, meditation and other activities, you are invited to go deeper – only as you feel comfortable – and discover the wonder of you within the images on the cards. Discover how Spirit and Mystery surround you, enfold you and hold you and reveal the diversity of the inner you.

Spiritual directors, teachers, therapists, and people all over the world use this simple yet powerful process in workshops and retreats, spiritual direction sessions, psychotherapy, classrooms, and coaching sessions (to name a few). There are more than 5000 trained SoulCollage® Facilitators worldwide and that number continues to grow!

SoulCollage® is a creative process for self-discovery, self-acceptance, and personal empowerment and healing which embraces the individual’s intuition and creativity. Because we respect the artistic expression of photographers, artists, and journalists, we respect the copyright of images and therefore SoulCollage® cards should only be made for personal use only. They are not to be copied, sold, traded, or bartered. The example of a card above contains images I’ve captured through my photography. I own the copyright to those images.
